In Memory of Djuan Bush

It is with deep regret that I inform you that the Caltrans family suffered another loss last night. Djuan Bush, 24, a Caltrans Highway Maintenance Worker from the District 4 East Bay Guardrail Crew, passed away overnight from internal injuries sustained in a work zone accident. He was closing the tailgate on a one-ton truck when a private vehicle hit the boom truck that was parked behind the smaller truck. The private vehicle then spun out and struck Djuan, pinning him to the one-ton truck.
Djuan was transported to the hospital, operated on and passed away just before midnight in the intensive care unit.
Djuan is survived by his parents, brother, sister and grandmother. He has extended family within District 4. We, the broader Caltrans family, mourn the loss of this dedicated employee, who has been with Caltrans for the past two years.
This is a tragic turn of events for the Department. We take great precautions to ensure a safe workplace, whether in the office or on the road. I can never underscore enough with the public the importance of slowing for the cone zone and the need for each of us to be extra vigilant in our work zones.
Our sincere condolences go out to Djuan's family, the District 4 Maintenance staff and to all who knew Djuan.
